Hello, periodic post where I rage over some guy’s hipbones and how I will never, ever, ever have them that shape, my evening was going swell.

Telling me you FAILED to make a character queer because you TOTALLY MISUNDERSTOOD what that type of queerness actually means IS NOT FUN

WHY DID YOU NOT JUST KEEP THIS A SECRET

Teen Wolf Meta: I find it interesting…

ladyw1nter:

…in the spaces of time I’ve been at work and pondering a great many things, how the narrative common to most of my favorite fic has Stiles navigating that weird pedestal’d place of soft (feminine) power.

ie. When one simply cannot, by training or otherwise, get over the hump of…

Very much in agreement with all of this.  I noticed this too, while I was reading a Sterek fic last night, that a theme that keeps popping up is Stiles’s desire to take care of himself, to be able to protect himself and not rely on the others so much, Derek in particular.  Now there are definitely hints of this through out the actual canon, season two’s Battlefield in particular, but fandom just seems to have taken this ball and run with it, bringing up Stiles’s anger and frustration about his inherently weaker state as a human again and again, his desire to feel like he’s actually contributing, his insecurities that he’s not really ‘one of the pack.’

This is especially interesting since on a surface level you’d expect Allison to get this kind of treatment — her entire arch hinges on the sentiment, ‘I want to be strong.’  However, if you take a closer look at how her arc progresses, it deviates from the usual ‘girl power’ story line — the way she goes about pursuing this power is evocative of those old shonen animes, where the young male lead trains endlessly and seeks out teachers so that he can protect those he cares about/gain revenge/’I just want to become stronger’ a la Naruto, Dragonball, etc.  Allison deals with the fallout of ambition, abusing power, losing sight of what’s important in the pursuit of her goal, all a very stereotypically male themes.

Am I saying this is a bad thing?  ABSOLUTELY NOT.  I think this is a great.  I think it’s absolutely stunning that a popular teen show on MTV is genderswitching tropes and narrative devices and not putting their characters into boxes.  Stiles can struggle with feelings of anxiety under the constant threat of physical attack from individuals he’s shown in show to have no defenses against (Peter, Gerard, even his friends Derek and Scott and Erica if you really want to get picky).  I’d bring up constant low grade anxiety and how it’s addressed in The Gift of Fear but that’s getting a little off topic.  Allison can have the redemption arc that every Draco in leather pants seems to have but that’s never given to the girl.  Lydia and Jackson can be seen going through parallel experiences of body horror and loss of control, proving that it can be both a male and female narrative.

I love how ladyw1nter’s pointed all this out about Stiles, because it’s been buzzing around in my own head for a while but I didn’t know how to put it into words.

So much good meta, yes yes yes.

That is a great point about how Allison has a shonen hero character arch.

The thing I forgot to bring up when I reblogged this the first time is how Stiles has narrative coded as feminine while simultaneously, some fans read him as a transman or ambiguously gendered. So it’s interesting, that maybe we are picking up some narrative cues, which may or may not ping Stiles as some sort of trans character, subtextually.

ladyw1nter: Sterek, why I care so much

thestrongestwolf:

charliepender:

The winner of MTV fanfic contest, the lovely lokiloo, is about to meet Jeff Davis and is asking to send her asks about anything we can think about (Sterek too, because probably we all tried not to harass her with Sterek questions and ended up not…

This is related to Sterek, but I asked her to relay how fans of the pairing aren’t all straight white cis ladies who get off on gay men.

I’m mean, I’m white, but I’m also a tapir(which is to say so much queer theory biz all up in your grill it’s not even funny). I want love stories that reflect the myriad ways houses(ilu, snow) and tapirs and boys can love each other, like in the real world. That Danny isn’t just somebody’s Gay Yoda, so no, having Danny be Stiles’ starter boyfriend isn’t gonna fly and having two (or more!) gay romance storylines in a show isn’t going to make it gross for the audience.

Mainly, I want Jeff to know that Others love the story he has created, and want to see something of themselves reflected in that story.

don’t fucking erase my labels you fucking asshat
some “”“”ally”“” you are

ALLY WEEK OMG WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS.

when will people learn that equality is not about erasing or ignoring differences?

Set it on fire.

You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me with this shit.

Wow, I think everyone missed the whole point of this poster. Nobody should be defined by their “labels”. Period. No matter what our differences might be we are first and foremost HUMAN. You are not “Bob the Transsexual”. You are not “Amy the Lesbian”. You are not “Joe the Straight Guy”. If you think you are any of those things then you must have such a low opinion of yourself. You are the human being with so much more to you than labels, you are a person who creates wonderful things and does so much good in the world as an individual. I think something like “Ally Week” is awesome. So what if someone outside of the minority wants to raise awareness and support. I think that’s a great thing to do. Sure they might not fully understand what it’s like but at least they’re willing to help out and keep themselves open to any constructive input. Are you going disregard a black person in need just because you yourself aren’t black? The whole point of this poster is to look past labels that some people may disagree with (and there will always be people who disagree with these things) and find that we are all human and we are all equals, our sexuality or gender should never be a defining factor in that. Jesus christ some of you people make me sick.

oh my fucking gods
and you say i’m missing the point

#you’re not supposed to disregard an entire part of someone’s identity #people’s differences are what make them awesome #and when you say you’re not amy the lesbian #um #amy is a lesbian #and she’s proud of that #don’t just fucking erase that part of her so you can say it doesn’t matter #because it does #and if these tags are way off #please tell me
EXACTLY

Okay, I want to start this off by calling attention to this sentence:
If you think you are any of those things then you must have such a low opinion of yourself.
Okay…FUCK YOU
Amy defining herself as a lesbian does not mean she is ignoring her status as an “individual that creates so much blah blah blah.” Defining yourself, or claiming parts of yourself does not mean you are ignoring anything about being an individual or ignoring the whole of your personality.
Newsflash: Most people wear more than one label and most people wear them with pride.
I am a bisexual virgin geek that is also a Christian with Pagan tendencies. I’m a fangirl. I’m a pervert with a dirty mouth. I’m fat. I’m a massage therapist. I’m a college grad. I’m a student. I’m fucking awesome.
By telling me that I can’t claim those labels because it means I don’t appreciate myself as a human individual is a load of crap. By telling me that you are ignoring labels you are actually telling me that you are a privileged little brat that finds it easier to ignore the parts of a person that help shape their lives instead of acknowledging them.
By crossing out the labels, the poster isn’t saying “We accept you all” it sounds more like the poster is saying, “We are aware of the labels, but we really don’t want to hear about how they affect your lives because it might make things awkward for us and we really aren’t that interested.”
So in conclusion: Fuck you. You aren’t my ally.

I would like to state for the record two things.
1) Fuck you, “allies”. Co-opting something that is needed and useful so you can feel like you’re doing your part to stop oppression is not actually helping anything.
2) I am in fact a tapir. A homoromantic asexual nongendered tapir.

If you’re a feminist who understands the (apparently not) radical concept that women can have penises and men can have vaginas (and that there are people with either or both of those who may very well identify as neither a man nor a woman), would you mind reblogging this? I could really use a little faith in humanity being restored right about now.

Can we just - I just noticed Stiles’s T-shirt, thanks to the above comment, and now I can’t stop thinking - does Stiles go over to dinner at the McCalls dressed in that shirt? Does his best friend’s single mom see him in that shirt? Because, AWKWARD.

*buries head in hands and laughs weakly*

Stiles. Stiles. Think before you dress yourself. Please.

I want to shred that shirt. How high does that hair go, mmm?

Baby, I think you mean how low.

I appreciate this picture for the above reasons and also because this totes gives me headcanon that Stiles is ftm/gender nonconforming and is wearing a chest binder right there.

MVA red carpet.

Seriously. Hottest Cast. I can’t believe Teen Wolf is still losing against SPN on that poll.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS!!! teen wolf cast, you are the absolute stereotype of girls dressing up and boys dressing down!! gage golightly looks like she’s IN COSTUME AS ERICA REYES in some kind of sexy gladiatory outfit; holland roden is wearing an ice-dancing costume; ian bohen is 35 tears old but seems to think he’s a teenage boy at a mid-level bland indie rock gig; crystal reed is wearing some kind of mature, glamourous cocktail dress and looks like a million dollars, and:

COLTON HAYNES IS LOOKING GQ AS USUAL, AND THE ACTOR WHO PLAYS MATT CAMERAGUY IS WEARING A DENIM JACKET!!! coordinate, for god’s sake! SHOW A UNITED FRONT. this is all the worst. DEAR CAST OF TEEN WOLF: PLEASE CALL ME AND EMPLOY ME AS YOUR STYLIST.

Every word of this is true and it is embarrassing. Like if this is was the srs bzns representation of the state of menswear today I would weep tears of pinstripe.

can you just imagine him doing that

sexually frustrated face

Other people see this and think, gee golly he hot, I wanna tap that.
I see this and feel a burning jealousy like the fires of 10000 molten suns because I will never have hips like those. I will never have muscles that cling to narrow pelvic bones like that. That’s not how anatomy works.
And yeah, I think he’s hot, because symmetry=hot for most people, but mostly? Mostly I want hips like that (narrow bones and sharp lines and the only soft thing is what’s hidden under denim) and I’ll never ever have them.
