(and yet: what if knowledge were delicious?): Why Peter Hale is Teen Wolf's Hannibal Lecter; why Peter/Stiles; and how I incepted myself into shipping Peter/Isaac

roseandthebeast:

If you go into the Peter/Stiles tag, there are sometimes people asking for fluffy or cute Peter/Stiles. Which just doesn’t always jive with me. I mean, I can see it, don’t get me wrong, in infinite universes with an infinite number of possibilities and also, I totally loved…

Fancy meeting you here.

Now that the shape of S3 is getting clearer, I’m more interested in the dynamic Stiles and Isaac have. They worked well together in ‘Raving’, during the interrogation scene. Isaac stole the rave tickets for Stiles and Scott, explicitly. (And Stiles had a vastly different reaction to that than Scott did, kiddo, your kinks are kinda sociopathic, we can tell)

Isaac might have an epic feelsboner for Scott that’s being nurtured in S3 buuuut that just creates a friendship (love) triangle.

And I can totally see Peter playing Isaac and Stiles off each other, too.

An argument for werewolf prophylactics:

I don’t want to spoil the end of agentotter’s excellent fic, Five Times Stiles Doesn’t Actually Need A Condom (And One Time He Does) but, spoiler, Stiles gets it on with a werewolf, and they use a condom.  Stiles has good reasons for insisting on a condom in that fic, but I would like present a general argument for this fictionally uncommon practice.

  1. Derek tells us that werewolves are immune to disease: immune does not mean incapable of transmitting.
  2. And really, anyone who tells you they are a special exception to using condoms is definitely someone you should be using condoms with.
  3. Derek tells us werewolves are immune to disease.  Here are some other things Derek has told us about biology:
  • Lycanthropy takes away epilepsy.
  • The bite turns you or kills you, there is no third option.
  • A snake is immune to its own venom.

Derek failed Basic Werewolf Biology.

Also, if a person can be turned via a bite, how do they know if they can’t be turned via exposure to any other bodily fluids?

I’ve always thought the mechanism behind the bite was a virus that just needed contact with the bloodstream anyway, so it could be in any bodily fluids.

Bodily fluids are the important thing here, since no one in the show has ever turned by breathing in Special Werewolf Air, so it obviously isn’t airborne.

I’ve seen a couple of stories and a couple of posts that say that dog jokes about werewolves “racist.”  I wasn’t sure why it was bugging me, so I’ve been turning it over in my head a little bit.  Here’s what I’ve come up with:

I wouldn’t call itwrongto say that dog jokes about (white) werewolves are racist, per se.  Still, there’s something off about it to me.

A really good read. I particularly like trying to parse out exactly what kind of Other Teen Wolf is shooting for - honestly, fucked if I know; I find most Monster-Human dichotomies are drawn more clearly - but seropositive status was one that I grappled with and it’s interesting to see that other people have too.

On the other hand, while it’s definitely unacceptable and gross to refer to Scott or Boyd as a dog or an animal - the website’s description was the most unbelievable thing, and I agree that there’s a racist layer to joking about a werewolf POC - I can understand why fic writers would make that parallel with all werewolves? Not just because Kate Argent used dog/bitch/pet jokes and language, and the other Argents have also drawn dog parallels by calling werewolves rabid and similar, which sets something of a precedent in tone, but werewolves are literally a different species in the world of Teen Wolf. Even though they’re mostly ‘in the closet’, to borrow True Blood’s vernacular, there are people who know about werewolves, and people who consider them subhuman, and I can see the parallels between werewolves living in a human world and any group given substandard treatment against the white/male/cis/het/seronegative/’choose your non-Other’ mainstream, even if Teen Wolf’s metaphor itself is a little muddled.

Part of my take may be that I don’t believe I’ve seen this used as a joke, though - more often as ‘hey Stiles, this joke? actually offensive’ serious moment.

ETA - also, I would disagree (agree with what you’re saying) that dog jokes about werewolves are racist. Racist is not the word I would use, and I think that’s inappropriate.

Sinsense has brought up seropositive status before as a possible Other they might be aiming for, but yes, the metaphor is very muddied.

The Argents’ views on werewolves is what I think informs fandom about how to tackle this and I agree that ‘racist’ is not the best way we could get that across. I’ve always thought ‘bigot’ was a more useful term, but ymmv.

I’ve seen a few fics that actually call hunters speciesist through the Stiles filter, which I’m not sure how I feel about.

We start to tread the biological divide then, and I’m not certain how different werewolves are supposed to be. Is the child of a werewolf and a human infertile? Can a human and a werewolf have children? Are the children of were/human pairs always human?

Are werewolves a subspecies? A different branch entirely that still evolved with bipedalism and all that jazz?

Drive-By Derek Hale Meta.

saucefactory:

saucefactory:

So, I was in the midst of writing my Sterek Campaign Charity Auction story (a sequel to Dogs of War), when it hit me.

All the werewolves in canon - or almost all of them - use seduction in order to get their way. In fact, they use seduction at least as often if not more often than they use violence.

The most obvious example is Derek Hale, with his super-nice smile when he’s seducing Cop Lady, to his creepy bad-touching when he’s seducing Erica. But the question is, who taught him to do that? It’s clearly not just a Derek thing (or a Kate thing), because Peter seduces in order to get his way, too. He does it with Lydia when he’s all but a ghost, but he also does it with Stiles (that offer to bite Stiles’s wrist was a little too erotically charged), and his whole game with Mrs. McCall is basically about seducing his way into the pack. And into Scott’s (forced) good graces.

So, it’s a Derek thing and a Peter thing.

Maybe it’s a Hale thing? Maybe Peter taught Derek how to be seductive? Or maybe someone else in the Hale clan did? Maybe all the older Hales teach all the younger Hales that instead of force, which is noticeable and has terrible consequences like incarceration and torture à la Argent and wolfsbane, seduction is the favored way out of a (ahem) sticky situation? That a little charm goes a long way?

Maybe there’s something even more wrong about it - something kinky and pseudo-incestuous and strange - because there’s definitely some element to that in what Derek teaches his pack. Erica attempts to seduce Scott in her own way, and she wasn’t given to seduction prior to Derek ‘turning’ her. Which, okay, maybe she’s just exploring her weresexuality, but there’s definitely an element of mentoring that cannot be denied, especially considering how she herself had been recruited. She knows how irresistible werewolves can be, and she’s putting it to good use.

Boyd, I haven’t seen being seductive - yet - but I hold out hope for HIM AND DANNY OH GOD CAN YOU IMAGINE IT SO HAWT. Ahem. Isaac, though. Sweet baby Jesus Isaac. If someone tells me Isaac isn’t laying on the charm pretty thick when he tries to seduce Scott through lacrosse (“I came to win your heart,” dear god), I won’t believe them. Just. Isaac is seducing Scott, more effectively than Erica ever manages to do it, because Isaac appeals not only to Scott’s base lusts but also to his higher emotions - to his compassion and his righteousness and his deep need for companionship.

Isaac gets that. He gets how to win Scott’s heart, but the question is… how? Who taught him? Certainly not his dad, who was a wacko and a sadist and wouldn’t have known ‘love’ if it tap-danced on his forehead in a hula-hoop. And Isaac certainly showed no such amazing social skills before turning into a werewolf.

So. It had to be Derek, didn’t it? Derek, who was planning to bring Scott over to his side, anyway, and taught two of his Omegas - Isaac and Erica - how to do it. Erica fails; Isaac doesn’t. But maybe Isaac doesn’t fail because he also means it, because he’s genuinely in love with Scott. Like, pie-in-the-sky in love with Scott. Scott can’t resist honest affection any more than I can resist chocolate cake. (Which is not at all. In case you were wondering.)

Well! That’s my drive-by meta. I now want ALL THE BACKSTORY about the Hales and their ‘seduction lessons,’ and whether they ran into bad-wrong incestuous territory, or whether they were simple lectures about avoiding physical harm via personal charm. I also want all the Hale Pack 2.0 backstory about Derek teaching his new pack the very same skills he was taught. Then, I want a story in which Stiles is turned (by Derek? By Peter? EITHER WAY HE IS TURNED) and is taught how to seduce in a very hands-on sort of way. If you know what I mean.

I want all of it. Which makes this post more of a request than a meta post. Oh, dear.

Good night, good people! I know I’ve been showing my face on Tumblr less and less often, but work is eating me alive!

OH CRAP I JUST REALIZED

WHAT IF THIS WAS WHY DEREK GOT CLOSE TO KATE

WHAT IF, AT FIRST, DEREK LET HIMSELF GET SEDUCED BY KATE AS A WAY OF HANDLING AN ARGENT (A THREAT)

AND THEN THINGS GOT OUT OF HAND WHEN HE FELL FOR REAL

WHAT IF ALL THE HALE LESSONS ABOUT SEDUCTION WENT HORRIBLY WRONG

WHAT IF

(OKAY I KNOW THAT’S NOT HOW IT HAPPENS IN ON FIRE BUT IT’S TWISTED AND THEREFORE I WANT IT)

(DAMN)

By god, this fits my Peter & Derek headcanon  SO WELL. Because, who taught Derek how to interrogate, too? Who helped him figure out his limits for pain and discomfort? Who, going back to the meta, taught him how to seduce?

Alphas and their mates

TEEN WOLF AU Following the decimation of the Alpha pack, Scott becomes an Alpha and Isaac pledges his loyalty to him instead of Derek. In order to stand a chance against Derek, Peter, Boyd, Erica, Jackson, and Lydia, Stiles and Allison trade their humanity, assuring an alliance with the Argents when Scott and Allison mate (much to Chris’ dismay). It is only when Stiles becomes a wolf that he realises him and Derek were meant for greater things, things that they can no longer have since they are on opposing sides. That is, until Peter suggests Stiles and Derek mate to cement an alliance between the two packs.

So while this idea is shiny, what I’m wondering is - If, at the end of S1/start of S2, with Peter dead, Allison asking for the bite would be an equally good way for the various factions to make a truce. Derek would have a beta who understands about the importance of training, and with Allison comes Scott. Allison being a werewolf, one of Derek’s means he would be ok with Scott and Allison being together.  That lack of animosity would make Scott want to work with Derek, and potentially see him as his Alpha.
